Writer's Block: Fantasy Sports

Imagine you manage a coven of baseball-playing vampires. The Cullen family is really strong this year and you want to bring in a ringer. Which currently active MLB baseball player do you sire?

I don't like baseball, so I really don't care. Why are the vampires wasting their time playing baseball? I'd think they'd prefer hockey--more bloodshed. Or, maybe that Aztec game where the losers were all sacrificed to the gods or something.

I really don't care for sports at all, but I attribute my complete lack of interest in baseball to the fact that my father is a die-hard Cincinnati Reds fan, and they suck. And he'd probably be really insulted if he knew I said that, but they really do suck.

Writer's Block: It Sounds Better When You Say It

No matter what language you speak, you've probably come across words or phrases in another language that sound better than their equivalents in your native tongue. What's your favorite word or phrase in a foreign language?

I like "Je ne sais pas," (approx. pronounciation is Jeh-neh-say-pah) which is French for "I don't know." It's fun to say.

Writer's Block: My Biggest Environmental Pet Peeve

Littering, long showers, not recycling... What's your biggest pet peeve about the way some people (mis)treat our planet?

Sponsored by One Million Acts of Green brought to you by Cisco.

Right now, it's littering, because I just saw some people throw trash out of their car when I was behind them in the Taco Bell drive-thru. I wanted to find out where they lived, then drive over there in the middle of the night, slash their tires, and spray-paint "LITTER BUG!" on their back window. Of course, I would never actually do that, because I'm too afraid of breaking the law, but I wanted to.

Under normal circumstances, my environmental pet peeve would be that my dad steadfastly refuses to believe in global warming--he says it's BS, which I think he says just because he works at a coal-burning power plant and admitting that global warming is real would mean accepting that he is partially responsible for screwing up the planet.

Writer's Block: LiveJournal Book Club

Out of all of your favorite books, pick just one you'd recommend everyone read. As a bonus: why did you pick that one?

View 505 Answers

Monstrous Regiment, by Terry Pratchett. It's a Discworld book, but you don't have to read any of the other books in the series to understand it. I love it because it is hysterically funny, but at the same time it also makes you think. And its premise is that gender doesn't matter, people are just people, which is something I've thought for a long time.

Writer's Block: In a Jam

If you were in trouble or ran afoul of the law, which fictional detective or investigator—from tv, movies, or books—would you want to help you?

Sherlock Holmes, of course. :)

Writer's Block: Change for the Better over a Decade

How are you a better person today than you were ten years ago?

Sponsored by Nature Made

View 501 Answers

Considering the fact that I was thirteen ten years ago, I guess the greatest way in which I've changed for the better is that I'm no longer a whiny little bitch. ;)

Okay, I kid. No, I guess I'm more experienced in many areas, I'm more knowledgeable, and I'm more comfortable with myself. Along those same lines, my self-knowledge is much greater, which is something I think is very important. Being diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome has a lot to do with this--now I understand why I do certain things--but it certainly isn't all. Realizing the truth about my sexuality, that I'm asexual and that it's okay to be that way, is also a big part of that. I think becoming more self-knowledgeable has helped me become more true to myself, which I also think is very important.

Writer's Block: My Definition of Greatness

How do you define greatness?

Sponsored by Nature Made

There are so many parts of this for me, but I guess the short answer would be, the number of good works a person does, not to be rewarded but for the sake of being good.

Like, every now and then I wish I was rich so I could donate to charity. And so I could adopt an animal or two, because there are so many animals out there without homes.

Writer's Block: Honey Bear

Happy birthday, A. A. Milne! Not coincidentally, it's also Winnie the Pooh Day. Which resident of Pooh Corner do you identify with the most?

View 500 Answers

Well, one of my childhood nicknames was "Pooh Bear," and my mom still calls me that occasionally (funnily enough, her nickname is "Rabbit," a name Dad uses all the time). I really like Eeyore, though. He's always portrayed as being so gloomy and pessimistic, which he is in a way, but in truth I think he's more of a realist. Plus, ostensibly Owl is the "smart one," or at least he's supposed to be, although he's more of a parody of the sort of person who thinks he knows everything but really knows nothing. Eeyore, however, really is intelligent, probably the smartest character in the Hundred Acre Wood, but he doesn't parade that fact or seem proud about it at all. Plus, Owl may have book smarts, but Eeyore is more worldly wise. And no matter what happens to him, no matter how gloomy he seems, he never gives in to despair--he just keeps on keeping on. And these are all things I can definitely identify with.

Writer's Block: Physical Education

Call it gym, P.E., recess, or pure hell, most people have participated in a class at school that focused on games and athletics. What sport or game did you hate the most when you were a kid? What sport or game was your favorite?

View 502 Answers

I always hated volleyball, and I mean hate hate hate. Mainly because I sucked at it and I always ended up with seriously bruised wrists from trying to hit the damn ball. Actually, I hated 99.9% of all sports, because I sucked at all of them. I only had a vague chance at basketball, because I was tall enough that I could just stand under the basket and wait for someone to pass me the ball so I could put it in. But basketball bored me, so I didn't much like it, either. Gym was just hell.

Writer's Block: Secret Crush

Everyone knows having a crush at the office or in class can make the time pass a little bit quicker. Is it better to keep your crush a secret or tell them how you feel?

If your crush happens to be your 25-year-old high school teacher, you should keep it a secret.

Writer's Block: Last Call

You are on a plane that's about to crash. You have time to make ONE phone call. Who do you call and what do you say?

I probably wouldn't have the presence of mind to be able to use a cellphone. I wouldn't be able to think of anything to say, or even who to call, except maybe 911 in the hopes that they might be able to do something helpful.

Writer's Block: Being Another Creature

If you could be any creature, any mobile life form at all, which would it be and why?

I might like to be a tiger, because I like tigers and that's my animal from the Chinese Zodiac. Of course, seeing as they're endangered and keep getting cut up by poachers for Chinese Holistic medicine, that might not be so cool. Maybe just a normal domestic house cat, then, because they are also cool (even though I'm allergic), and they get people to take care of them--and according to Animal Planet, they are the most "extreme" species of cat on the face of the planet. And they are certainly not endangered.

I really like rodents, but I don't think I'd like to be one, unless I was maybe a pet mouse or rat, because then I probably wouldn't get eaten. The fact that I'd only live about a year or two would kind of suck, though. Maybe a Capibera wouldn't be too bad, because they're huge and they can swim.

Anyway, I think a house cat is my final answer. The kind that never does any work and makes friends with the local mice.

EDIT: Or maybe some kind of bird, because I'd love to be able to fly, or a dolphin, because I love to swim. Indecisive, much? Oh, wait, seagull! Then I could give people crap all the time! Haha.

Writer's Block: How I got on LJ

Who introduced you to LiveJournal? Why did you first open an account or get involved?

View 503 Answers

I first opened an LJ account because I wanted to be able to comment on Deleterius. I don't remember how I found Deleterius in the first place. Probably on some other Harry Potter website. That was back when I was an uber-Harry Potter fan. I've grown out of that now, for better or worse.

Writer's Block: Almost Famous

What do you want to be famous for?

View 501 Answers

I want to be a famous author. This is no secret to most of the people who know me well. Being on the best-seller list would be nice, but I want to be known for good writing, not just popular writing. It would be awesome to write the sort of books that college students might study someday.

"Hey, wait a second. I may have Asperger's Syndrome, but that doesn't mean I'm disabled!"--A thought that occurred to me after receiving an e-mail encouraging me to apply for a job because they wanted to hire more "disabled" people.
