Cross Stitch..

I've finally started my Alice Cullen cross stitch. It's 23 pages long. I was hoping to do it on black fabric, alas I couldn't see shit on it, so it's on a cream fabric. That just means I have to cross stitch all the black. Do I honestly think I'll get it done by next week, probably not!! I'm going to find my waste canvas though and do my quote on the other side of the bag and the Team Alice logo, so at least that is done :)

What else? Um, working in just over 2 hours for 4 hours tonight. Then I'm going to come home and probably tidy my room LOL. It takes me awhile to wind down.

Hugs,
Tams

Jumpin' Jack Flash

Still nothing on my laptop. I've done it to a previous restore point with no luck...so now I'm going to try and reformat it. That or else I'm ringing tomorrow and telling them I need a new one!

I'm watching NCIS...I love Gibbs & Abby & McGee & them all really =)

I'm soo annoyed I can't do anything on line! Or on my computer at all, it's really annoying!

Other than that, I haven't really been doing much. I worked 7 hours today and it was BUSY! OMG! SOo many people!! They all came after the rugby had finished. I got told I wasn't much of a New Zealander because I didn't know who the all blacks had been playing. Well whoop de shirt I tell ya!

I'm about to cut out my cross stitch patterns and find the middle of it to start my Alice Cullen bag, fingers crossed I have it finished by the New Moon premiere, just a mere 10 days away!!

Hugs,
Tams

Sad News

My laptop won't start now. I was working on it today, ready to save everything to CDs in case the need arose for a reformat. But it seems to have other ideas, now it will make the noises like it is starting up, but it won't get any further than that. I just keep getting the great black screen of death.

Which means I've probably lost everything on it.

Which means I'll probably have to restart my Nano stuff...

I'm screwed I tell ya, SCREWED!

I will try my bestest to keep up with blog posting a day, I can still use dad's computer....so hopefully!

And fingers crossed, they just give me a new one this time!

Which character from any film, television show, or book would you most like to take on a date and why?

Brendan Fraser's character from the Mummy movies--If Evie would let me borrow him. (g)

Otherwise, Hodgins (T. J. Tyne) from Bones. Sorry, Angela; you foolishly gave him up, so I'm nabbing him. I know what's good! He's a totally fun guy and very intelligent. Wonderful sense of humor, and loyal.

Toad Hall

I was trying to think, the other day, of a way to describe The League of Gentlemen to the uninitiated. I finally settled on 'Monty Python and The Twilight Zone get together to do The Simpsons.' Except without the actual Simpson nuclear family at the centre ... but then my brain twitched and this happened:

Grotesque though they are there is a place in my heart for the Dentons ... a musty, badly-wallpapered place, but a place nonetheless. If I ever had a family of my own it would probably be disturbingly similar, at least in character. This is why I do not have a family. (Well, among other reasons...)

If your curiosity is morbid enough to wonder who the Dentons are, this is a halfway decent clip – if you're in the mood for a more, er, ribald romp, check out The Dentons' Household Rules in Song ... but don't say I didn't warn you.

Mass Shooting at Fort Hood

My condolences and sorrow go out to the families and friends of the 12 soldiers murdered today at Fort Hood army base here in Texas, and to the 31 soldiers wounded.

This appears to have been the act of a single person, a military officer, oddly enough, who had been protesting and appealing his upcoming deployment overseas.

My feeling is, the gunman cannot have been right in the head. If you're in the military, deployment is pretty much a given during wartime. You go where they send you. To argue against that is irrational; you obey lawful orders. Apparently, he was quite vocal about his objections to the war and to being sent into it, and this understandably did not endear him to his fellow soldiers. It's alleged that harassment occurred, though I don't know to what extent. That's conduct unbecoming, and it ought not to occur, but as part of human nature, it does. It's basically a group's way of defending itself against someone it perceives as an outsider.

I don't think this man should have been deployed, simply because he doesn't seem to have been emotionally stable enough to have handled it effectively. On the other hand, he was a military psychiatrist and would not have even been stationed on the front lines. And if the military permitted every war protester in its ranks to avoid deployment, it could not function. That would cause a complete breakdown of military discipline.

This is a tragedy, all the way around.

LiveJournal Major Notes: Spam counter-attack, RSS feeds again, CSI Deadly Intent contest

The empire strikes back

In recent weeks, we've taken huge steps towards blocking spam accounts on LiveJournal. In fact, we've suspended as many as 30,000 accounts in a single day! We've implemented several pre-emptive measures to prevent the creation of spam accounts, and we've honed our detection of suspicious content. Spam bots are a crafty lot, so we'll continue to refine our tactics and keep up the good fight to keep you safe from spam attacks on LiveJournal.

RSS feeds again

If you're addicted to [info]xkcd_rss, [info]icanhaschzbrgr, or other syndicated feeds, we're pleased to report that we've resolved the update error that was mucking up your RSS feeds. While content was being pulled correctly, it wasn't being posted to the feeds themselves. Late last week, we finally nailed down what we hope was the root problem, so content should post properly. We thank you for your patience.
